Part-time Position to Assist in the Management of the Microscopy Imaging Facility

A part-time (80%) position is available at the School of Molecular Sciences, La Trobe University, to maintain and manage the microscopy imaging facilities. The Facility comprises two confocal microscopes (Leica SP2 and Zeiss LSM 510), two epifluorescence microscopes (Olympus BX50 & IX81) and two electron microscopes (JSM 6340F & JEM 2010 HC).

The position involves:
~ Responsibility for the ongoing operation and mainenance of the microscope facility;
~ Training of new users;
~ Coordinating access to the facility;
~ Undertaking preparation of samples;
~ Assisting in research projects as directed;
~ Participating in the organisation of microscopy group meetings and scientific seminars as directed.

The successful applicant will have a B.Sc. of B.Sc.(Hons) or relevant qualifications/experience. Previous experience in microscopy is preferred but we are willing to train people who demonstrate appropriate enthusiasm for the position. The successful applicant will be required to work the equivalent of 4 days per week (0.8 full-time, pro-rata) with remunerations appropriate to the level of experience. There will be some level of flexibility in the work schedule (to be negotiated).
